Born and bred in the north-west of England, our team are more than just workmates; we are all brothers and sisters dedicated to providing the best haulage service we can possibly provide.

The Story So Far
The company was first launched by Mark Jones (Managing Director) in 1996 as a courier franchise with Mercury Express UK. Described by Mr Jones as a ‘one man with van’ set-up, he believes he bought into a franchise that, unfortunately, failed at the first hurdle.
Although this experience wasn’t the most successful, it held Mark in good stead as he gradually began to develop and grow the business. From a small fleet of vans that carried out simple courier services, to the purchase of a 7.5 tonne truck in 1998, the company steadily began to grow in stature. However, Mr Jones soon realised that courier work was too unpredictable.
"You start each day and if the phone goes you'd be flat out, but every morning you could start with nothing and that's scary."
This created a desire for greater business security and drove the inevitable shift towards more express haulage and pallet distribution; rather than next day and single item deliveries. This progression started to happen at the turn of the millennium as our first 18 tonne truck was purchased in the year 2000.
"Once we got the 18-tonner, we found that work was more stable and then we got into articulated lorries. We bought our first one when we joined UPN in 2001 as a founding member."
Working with overnight pallet deliveries proved a turning point for EFS, as it made freight the majority of our work, rather than the courier work. In 2006, Mark Jones and EFS joined UK Pallets and today the courier work represents just 5% of our business.
In order to maintain growth and progression, in 2010 EFS acquired the Cheshire based business 747 Express Freight. This added an additional 10 vehicles to our ever-growing fleet and an ability to service customers based in the Cheshire area.
A year later, and we were also able to acquire a Lancashire based business dealing with refrigerated transport services. This added a new and exciting development to our company and an avenue we had not previously explored. We are now able to offer time sensitive and temperature controlled deliveries via an expansive fleet of refrigerated vehicles.
In March 2013 we expanded further with the acquisition of Logictrans UK Limited based in Leigh, Lancashire enabling us to expand our service offering further.
July 2014 sees another milestone for us in the opening of our new 36,000sq ft warehouse in Burnley.
April 2015 sees a key acquisitions in C.S Brunt (Freight Services) Ltd based at Trafford Park, Manchester who for over 40 years have been specialists in Freight Services and are a AEO Authorised Economic Operator.
Also in April 2015 Red Scar Tyres Ltd joined the EFS Group family, specialists in commerical tyres for over 20 years, the aquisition enables the our vehicle maintaince department to develop.
Febuary 2016 EFS Group expands further with haulage and pallet distribution company Horizon Distribution based near Liverpool being aquire.
Moving Forward with Technology
From 2011 onwards, all of our vehicles were fitted with Tom-Tom satellite navigation systems and on-board tracking devices to ensure we keep up with the latest developments in digital technology. This provides our customers with live data and information on where a certain delivery is, day or night.
In 2015 we fitted Smart-Witness cameras to our own fleet.
This embrace of technology highlights our constant desire to improve and expand, whilst being able to offer our customers the best in haulage services.
